That's right...a Volkswagon "My Fast." Volkswagon should make dash-board-mountable models of the one used in the commercials, give them away with cars, and sell them at the Wal Mart. They'd make a killing. I'd buy one.
How cool would it be if the models had recordings and a built in FM modulator that could project the recordings over your car's internal audio system? Then next time your date/girlfriend starts complaing about something the My Fast's eyes could light up and the words "My Fast doesn't like my Girlfriend" would below throughout the car. That would be awesome!!
Seriously, how many guys out there would buy the thing? Does anyone else think these commericials are as cool as I do? Nobody ever called me an authority on what is cool, so probably not, but maybe there is hope. Maybe someday I'll know what's cool and what is not cool.
UPDATE: 4:05
I found out that everyone that buys a a VW gti gets a free "My Fast" in the mail. Some people are selling them on Ebay and they're bidding up to $300. Wow! I don't think I want one that much. Unless they talk, then that would a great birthday present.
...I'm not. I've just fallen back into the habit of being neglectful of my blog. Why you ask? Well part of the reason is my new found obsession with XM Radio, or more specifically XM 175, Major League Baseball Homeplate. Homeplate features nothing but baseball talk and news all day, all week, all month, all year, all decade, and after weeks of listening, I've decided that XM Radio is a must for any baseball fan. This talk is not just limited to the big leauges, but there are also shows on fantasy strategy, minor leagues, and listeners can hear archived big league games.
Many of the commentators that have daily shows also have pretty familiar names like Rob Dibble, Kevin Kennedy, Charlie Stienier, Ronnie "Night Train" Lane, and Buck Martinez. XM also covers every game from spring training through the world series, and in a few weeks XM will cover every game of the World Baseball Classic, broadcasting from all over the world.
While I was in China, a country were less than 100,000 of the nearly 1.3 billion residents play or have played baseball, I began to have withdrawls of the game. Strange you ask? Strange indeed because I've always been a baseball fan, but casually at best. While I was gone, I realized how great American culture is, and how important baseball has been in the development of that culture. I know that the popularity of the game has somewhat faded in recent years, but for me Baseball is more important than ever.
And, at the risk of being trite, baseball is becoming more and more embraced across the world. Because of this, unlike many Americans, I am extremely excited about the upcoming World Baseball Classic. I'm sure many of you could care less about most of this tournament, but I'm hoping to spark some interest in the event by covering WBC news and maybe even liveblogging some WBC games.
Don't think that all I'm going to write about is baseball. I'll continue to post about other things important to me like Mississippi, China, Ole Miss, etc. etc. etc. But never fear, I am alive and well.
Sasha Cowen just did a real good performance.
