The son of a former coaching icon and the protege of one of football's best has been hired to take the reins at Louisiana Tech. Derek Dooley, the son of former Georgia head coach Vince Dooley and Nick Saban's tight ends coach at the Miami Dolphins, was named head coach of the Ruston-based school today.
Dooley, who played football right here at UVA and received a JD from the University of Georgia, takes over from Jack Bicknell III, who was relieved of his duties after 8 years with the Bulldogs.
I concur with Greg Little. This is a good hire, Tech fans.
UAB, meanwhile, has hired the underwhelming UGA Offensive Coordinator Neil Callaway as its next coach, several days after the UA Board of Trustees nixed the potential hire of LSU Offensive Coordinator Jimbo Fisher.
